Online Publishers Get Credit Where Credit is Due With Email Accreditation Program

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - October 25, 2004 - The Institute for Spam and Internet Public Policy (ISIPP) and the International Council of Online Professionals (iCop) announced today a partnership designed to bring to online small business professionals and publishers the same levels of visibility, accountability and email deliverability as their larger corporate colleagues.  MORE >>>

"The Survival of Your Online Business Depends on Email!"

The question became how to fix the email system.  MORE >>>

"iCop Now Offers the Vital Solution!"

iCop has entered into a relationship with one of the certification services known as the ISIPP Accreditation Database (IADB).  ISIPP stands for the Institute for Spam and Internet Public Policy.

IADB takes information provided by email senders and generates a rating for the sender.  Anyone can access the database to make decisions about how to deal with that sender's email, including whether to accept or reject messages.

iCop is offering members two levels of certification, depending on the mailing practices of the sender ...  MORE >>>

Increased Rate of Email Delivery = Higher Profits!

  • Being certified allows network administrators at ISPs, large and small business networks, real-time block list operations and other certification and reputation services to access IADB and use the data provided on your behalf to make the right decisions on how to treat the email you send.

  • Under IADB's point system...

    • An iCop Email Sender will receive a total of 40 points

      • 10 pts for an IADB listing
      • 10 pts for publishing an email policy record (such as an SPF record)
      • 10 pts for being an iCop Email Sender
      • 10 pts for running opt-in mailing lists

    • An iCop Trusted Email Sender will receive a total of 60 points

      • 10 pts for an IADB listing
      • 10 pts for publishing an email policy record
      • 20 pts for being an iCop Trusted Email Sender
      • 20 pts for running verified opt-in mailing lists

  • Certified iCop members who are also clients of iCop Hosting may receive assistance in publishing email policy records, such as SPF.

  • The program administrator works on your behalf in dealing with individual delivery issues of participants.  The Trusted Email Sender program obtains appropriate arrangements for members with various ISPs and networks, to facilitate mail delivery.

  • In the USA and elsewhere email and Internet access services are regulated industries.  You can elect to receive regular news updates on the rules affecting senders and receivers.

One Step to Higher Profits!

Application

First, you need to go through an application process.

Why do you need to go through an application process when you're already an iCop member?

Simply because iCop is going to be standing behind your rating, in essence saying to the world at large you are a good emailer.

This means iCop is taking a higher level of responsibility for your behavior as a member.  iCop's reputation for integrity must be protected at all costs.

Listing Process

You will pay a small non-refundable fee and agree to allow iCop to verify your application.

iCop will need to know the individual applicant, the type of mailings and whether the mailings meet the appropriate requirements for a specific level of certification.

You will be asked to allow us to review your mailing practices and make such other inquiries as appropriate.

Once again, absolutely no chances will be taken with iCop's excellent reputation.  Any iCop member should qualify easily!

Requirements

You will be asked to provide letters of reference from 3 independent sources.  (Applicants who are primarily corporate bulk emailers or email marketing campaign providers: two references must be from email receivers.)

You will be asked to provide us with information about how long you've been in business, the nature of your business and respond to specific questions, including inquiries about your mailing practices.

Based on the information you provide, along with our own inquiries, the program administrator will then assess whether you should be listed and what level of certification you will receive.

There's NO difference in cost!

What's the difference between being an iCop Email Sender and an iCop Trusted Email Sender?

Many system administrators do not accept opt-in with a confirmation (subscriber opts in and receives a confirmation response) as being an acceptable level of proof of consent.  Also, the largest real-time block list operator, Spamhaus, requires verified opt-in as proof of consent to have an email address added to a specific mailing list.

As an iCop Trusted Email Sender, running verified opt-in mailing lists gives you a higher rating under the IADB system.  Your mail will be better received, and you will have a valid defense against complaints.

In addition, the program administrator can more easily deal with delivery issues on your behalf.

Can You Lose Your Certification?

Absolutely!

Yes, you can lose your certification.  If it turns out, based on the levels of complaints, IADB determines you have mislead us about your emailing practices, your certification privileges can be withdrawn after consultation with iCop.

What will happen?  You will be placed on a banned list that is accessible by anyone, subject to a fine of $5,000 and reported to the relevant government authority for carrying out Unfair Trade Practices.

You may also be sued by the Internet access provider(s) that received unsolicited bulk email for any loss suffered.

In addition, you will lose your certification if you no longer meet any of the other requirements, and, depending on the circumstances, you may be subject to the stipulated fine, reported to the government authorities and placed on a banned list.

Why So Tough?

To ensure compliance by all members with the requirements.  iCop is placing its reputation on the line for your benefit, telling the world at large, you can trust someone we certify as a good sender.

You want your email to get delivered.  We want to aid you in this process.  But, you must agree with us to meet and honor your commitments, so that people can rely on the rating you receive.

If you don't, we will have no choice, but to remove your certification, so that everyone understands our word and the word of all of you participating in the service is good.

NOTE:  Don't forget, you must keep your iCop Membership current to be eligible for this program!  No iCop member should EVER lose certification!
